Being one of the first of its kind, this program focuses on international and China-specific phenomena related to globalization and communication. M.A. in Global Communication\u00a0graduates work in areas such as the media, education, the non-governmental sector, management and research.<\/p>\n<h4>Growing influence<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The growing influence of China creates a great need for overseas and Hong Kong students to understand China and for Mainland Chinese students to understand globalization processes beyond the country&#8217;s borders. Our program serves the needs of all of those groups.<\/p>\n<h4>History<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So why should you come all the way to study in our School? First, our School has a long history of providing outstanding communication and media training by stellar faculty members and experienced media practitioners. Second, the M.A. in Global Communication exposes students to the latest theorizing in globalization and communication research and relates the theories to practical experiences inside and outside of the classroom. Third, our School is located in Hong Kong and thereby at the crossroads between East and West.<\/p>\n<h3>Theory and Practice<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the program, we strongly believe in the combination of theory and practice and\u00a0in educating critical thinkers. Our\u00a0required courses focus on theoretical training in globalization and communication phenomena like global media flows, transnational migration, circulation of media formats and practices or social advocacy and new technologies. Our\u00a0elective courses strengthen students&#8217;\u00a0practical skills related to communication practices in new technologies, public relations, journalism, or social advocacy, focusing on Hong Kong and China, seeing local issues through a global lens and vice versa. Students can now also choose to specialize in the streams <i>Global Media<\/i> or <i>Social Change and Advocacy<\/i>.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2026and we take students outside of the classroom through<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>field trips<\/li>\n<li>internships<\/li>\n<li>international study tours to Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, the Czech Republic, the UK and the USA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a0What You Will Gain<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After completion of the program, you will be able to<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 broaden the scope of knowledge about globalization, (new) media and human communication<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 be sensitized to issues and debates about global communication in China and worldwide<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 explain globalization and communication phenomena through the prism of global political, social, economic, and cultural processes such as migration, media policy, ICTs, or the political economy of global media corporations<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 critique current global trends<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 solve problems in intercultural work settings<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 have the theoretical knowledge and skills to develop your careers.<\/p>\n<h3>Careers<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Our graduates have found employment in a broad range of fields such as journalism, NGO and intergovernmental organization work, PR, marketing, commerce, finance and education.
